The IPA

The International Phonetic Alphabet is helpful to more accurately represent sounds in languages. As a teacher of ESL, I’ve met many students who are very motivated to both better understand and accurately reproduce English sounds. As a tutor, I’ve met many students who have problems with the often confusing spelling of English. Hence, my motivation to produce this IPA tool. (Also accessable under IPA Sounds menu.)

What is the IPA and what is its use?
What: International Phonetic Alphabet
Use: as a uniform, non-culturally specific way of transcribing sounds.
